Usability - Case study Sofia

The first purpose of a great transport map is to communicate to the user a choice of travel options to allow them to get around quickly and efficiently so that, during the limited time they may have, they can enjoy their experience rather than trying to get to grips with an unfamiliar system.

The second purpose is to provide the user with a simple, graphical overview of an otherwise complex connection of seemingly unconnected routes.

At Communicarta we use our familiar and user-friendly Style45 design attribute. It brings together graphical representation with
a colour-coded route system that makes navigation a simple and enjoyable experience.

In the case of Sofia's transport system, the official map merely shows lines with no stops and no names. And yet, each and every stop has a name and a number too as our map clearly shows.
In the streets at each stop the official map (see adjacent screen shot) is shown and this makes it very difficult to navigate around and make informed travel decisions.

Here is the same section of the official map and as you can see, the user will find it difficult, if not impossible, to navigate around with any accuracy compared to Communicarta's unique, user-friendly design.
